When I joined the MMS program at Durgadevi Saraf Institute of Management Studies (DSIMS), I wanted more than a degree. I wanted to build confidence, learn from people who knew their subject deeply, and prepare for a career in finance.
Today, as an Operations Analyst at Nomura service India Private Limited, I can say that decision shaped my life in ways I did not expect. Here is my experience, for anyone considering an MMS in Finance.
How DSIMS helped me overcome my fears
For a long time, fear held me back. I hesitated to speak up and doubted whether I could succeed. Pursuing my MMS at DSIMS changed that. The environment pushed me to participate, present and ask questions, and it gave my career a new direction. I am grateful to DSIMS for that.
A well-structured course that challenges you
The MMS course at DSIMS was purposeful, challenging and stimulating. It used different methods of assessment, including seminar presentations and action research, so we were not just memorising theory. We had to research, present and defend our ideas.
The collaborative approach to tutorials made classroom discussions lively. It also helped me build a network of peers, which has been very rewarding. Together with extracurricular activities, it kept my academic and personal growth in balance.
Why I chose Finance as my specialisation
Choosing Finance was one of the best decisions I made during my MMS. The finance curriculum is relevant and based on what the industry needs. Almost everything you are asked in an interview connects back to what you study in class. That made preparing for interviews much easier, and I could see the practical use of the theory.
Being part of FINDS
Being part of FINDS, the finance committee at DSIMS, gave me a range of new experiences that I will remember for life. It gave me exposure beyond textbooks and let me apply what I was learning with like-minded peers.
Learning from knowledgeable and supportive professors
The faculty at DSIMS are one of its biggest strengths. Each professor has a different and unique teaching style, which helped me understand concepts from different angles. They are knowledgeable, qualified and always willing to help.
Almost all of them hold doctorates in their fields, and I can vouch for the quality of their teaching and expertise.
Why I recommend MMS Finance at DSIMS
If you are looking for a program that combines strong academics with industry relevance, DSIMS is worth considering. For me, it offered a structured curriculum, a supportive faculty, a collaborative peer group and a practical approach to learning.
